Murtić is among those artists who make bold breaks with tradition, abandon fusty old conformist habits. Throwing stones at the soft, elegiac surface of settled patterns, emboldened with the best examples of previous generations, they have roughly broken up the quiet melancholy of this backwater and brought movement, passion and courage into our artistic life – elements without which real creativity cannot exist. Thus such ambitions, irrespective of their aesthetic value, have today, as movement, in this important period of the life of this country’s art, a broader and historical importance: remaining sceptical about the theory of progress in art, still, we must conclude that the new ideas provoke ferment, quicken the passions and help real, living conformities to be found between artistic form and the vital substance…
